Place 2BU Events & photos

The Place 2 BU (2BU) is a programming collaborative composed of professional staff from across the Division of Student Life and Baylor students working together to provide and promote weekend and special events that are free, or minimal in cost, and enrich the Baylor experience for our students.  The goal of Place 2 BU is to build a sense of community and to increase retention of first-year students.  Staff members of the collaborative are appointed by the Vice President of Student Life, and student members are appointed by staff members. Students appointed to the Student Union Advisory Board serve as the advisory group for 2 BU, providing recommendations for event planning and potential partnerships.

The events below are some of my most significant accomplishments during my time at Baylor University.

CHRISTMAS ON 5th STREET

This traditional Baylor event "lights up" in December on 5th Street. The Place 2BU and KOT presented the Annual KOT Christmas Tree Lighting as well as a FREE concert by Ed Cash and Matt Wertz.  It may not have been a white Christmas, but the holiday spirit rang true in the air as we celebrated the true joy of the season.

BALLOON GLOW

The Waco community and Baylor University presented The 4th Annual Balloon Glow & Concert, sponsored by Curves International & 89.9 KBDE this September. This was  an exciting event in which the audience experiences the sight of beautiful hot air balloons lit against the night sky.  This year's entertainment was Steven Curtis Chapman. This year's Balloon Glow was the biggest ever with over 40,000 in attendance!

CATTLE DRIVE

Built around the UT football game, this event was designed to provide fun, free entertainment to the students and community.  With over 4,000 people in attendance, this event was a success.  From a cowboy dress-up contest, to BU branding, we had it all.  There was a total of 6 student organizations who helped to cosponsor.  Check out some of the pictures below.

ACOUSTIC CAFE

A new program this year, Acoustic Cafe is designed to promote Baylor's student talent.  Currently, we have 3 seperate performances in the Spring, but are looking to increase the number due to popular demand!  Some of these students are just starting out and others have been able to record CD's already.  Acoustic Cafe is the perfect, intimate venue that allows each artist/band to gain crowd exposure.

SLIME NIGHT

This traditional Baylor event was brought back to life in 2004!  Starting in the 1930's new Baylor students (called slime) would be given caps during welcome week.  The students would wear their caps in order to be distinguisehd from the rest of Baylor.  Students would write their name and graduation year on the under side of the caps bill.  Ask any Baylor alumni-chances are they have their slime cap proudly displayed!
