Philosophy

my student affairs philosophy

My philosophy of student affairs focuses on building relationships with students that promote their development socially, emotionally, academically, personally, and spiritually.  The value of helping students bridge the gap between their academic and co-curricular learning is priceless.

As a professional in student affairs, our role includes empowering students to take responsibility for their choices, work well with others in society, and learn to value differences in people.  While encouraging students to think for themselves, it is important to challenge them to learn the importance of seeing other people's perspectives, even when they may not agree with them.

It is my responsibility to create a safe place where students can ask questions openly and sort through the questions they come across during the college years.

Most importantly, we should believe in what happens within relationships.  We should strive to be an example and role model for the students we encounter.  My hope is that the students I interact with would know that they have unique gifts and talents that they can offer other people around them.
